Should online videos be short or long?

There are many types of videos being uploaded to YouTube on a daily basis, many small businesses don’t have a clue on how to use YouTube to drive traffic. I believe that if your goal is to simply drive traffic you must focus on creating short videos that create enough curiosity that a visitor will decide to go to your site. Here’s an example for a video about contemporary wall panels and watch how short the video is.

How YouTubers Are Getting Famous

I was watching the Late Show With Stephen Colbert on YouTube the other day and he had as a guest PewDiePie which is a very famous YouTube and millionaire because of YouTube with over 20 million subscribers. I’m posting the interview video below for you to check out because I want to drive home a point about how powerful YouTube can be as a platform to achieve your music goals.

As you can see this guy had achieved something amazing using YouTube as a gaming platform, but what about musicians who want to get discovered? Well, it’s all about consistency, these days where every website and platform is competing for your attention YouTube can be one of the most powerful ways to reach a massive audience fast.

Even small businesses understand this, recently I was talking to a friend of mine who owns a granite & marble website and he was using YouTube to find new customers by uploading videos of his completed projects, this as a result was helping him gain more business. So the lesson here is if you are complaining about not being able to get your stuff out there is simply because you are not using these platforms to their full potential.

I know plumbers, lawyers and even a naples dj who is uploading videos from events to his YouTube channel to gain exposure, so I guess the question is what are you waiting for?

Is The Music Business Just Like A Small Business

I had an email from a reader the other day where he mentioned that he was a musician who was working a full-time job and on his spare time he was trying to get gigs and constantly uploading videos to YouTube and Facebook to see if he could get exposure. He told me he has being trying to live as an artist for the past 5 years and has had no luck doing it, but has saved some money. Now he was thinking of opening his own business which was limo rental cape coral or continue trying with his music

So, if you are reading this right now there are two things you should do, one is always treat whatever you are doing as a business. If music is your hobby it will never pay off, but if you take it seriously you might have a chance. Second, sometimes in order to achieve our dreams we must make sacrifices and if that means using your savings to live a year to truly focus on your music then that is what you should do, but only if you really want it. If are unsure then it’s simply not for you.

I guess the point I’m trying to make is if you don’t take yourself or your music seriously no one else will..

Now in comparison to a friend of mine who owns diseno web miami and has had a small business almost all his life I can tell you that running a business can be stressful and it might not be as easy as some people make it sound. Which is why if you are seriously considering launching your own business you should be 100% sure you are willing to go full-time with it and remove all distractions including your music.

That’s my opinion and yes I do believe that music industry is a business and if you are trying to profit from it you should learn it.

Why Jay Z’s Tidal Company Failed..

Tidal LaunchJay Z just a few months back was going to take over the world with the launch of TIDAL the music streaming app that was supposed to challenge juggernauts like Spotify. The company launched with the support of a dozen well known artists backing up the launch and each one of them had a stake in the company.

The whole event was extremely awkward in my opinion and even though it seem that the company was going to explode with millions of members it was not able to attract not even 10% of the huge market being dominated by Spotify and other streaming platforms. I asked my friend Mark who owns publicidad en miami and has done marketing and launch campaigns for many new and upcoming artists and he told me why he thinks Tidal’s launch was their biggest mistake.

It’s easy to see why Tidal has not taken off, they made it look like the multi-millionaire artists on stage signing a document showing their commitment to basically making more money..nowhere in the event they talk about how the user would benefit or if it was going to be a better service or perhaps a better price than the competition..NO ONE feels bad that these singers who make millions each year are missing out on a few more millions with other streaming services and that’s exactly what they did in the event. – Mark

I agree 100%. The fact that they tried to sell these multimillionaire artist as basically “use our service because we want more money” was without a doubt a horrible approach.

As of today Tidal sits on the bottom of the top 100 apps with the hype pretty much gone and many of the artists basically jumping ship some going with other new services like Apple music. For now only time will tell how long will Tidal survive and if it’s able to make a comeback or not.

The 3 sure ways to make a living in music

Yesterday I was talking to a friend of mine he is a fort myers dj that started playing in wedding ceremonies and other special events and he was telling me how he was making 6 figures a year doing it. You often hear about people who say they are djs but not all of them are able to make a comfortable living from it.

In this post I want to share some simple ways to make a living in the music industry without actually being famous or anything like that. I hope you enjoy the article.

#1) Becoming a disc jockey. If that’s a passion of yours you can make a great living doing this. It’s all about getting your business well setup. I’m talking website, business card and perhaps a little marketing. These days it helps if you are using the internet to get yourself out there and promote yourself.

#2) YouTube. Yes, there are a ton of singers on YouTube all looking to be discovered. But if you want to make some money in the side and you have a great voice you can start doing covers of popular songs. People for some reason love covers and YouTube has a partnership program that can help you pay the bills if you are able to build a following.

#3) Ghost writing. If you have some great lyrics you can easily sell your creation to many websites and artists out there, of course there is some competition but that doesn’t mean that it’s impossible.

Those are my top 3 ways and of course if you really want money and fame then what it takes for that is a lot of dedication, hard work and patience. Success doesn’t arrive overnight, keep that in mind.

How to market your music using the internet

For most musicians the big goal is to somehow get discovered and become super famous. However, these days with the help of the internet it’s easier than ever to grow an audience. The only thing is you must know how to build that audience and one of the best places to do it is using social media.

Social media sites like Twitter, Instagram, YouTube and Facebook have built amazing popularity, there has been many new singers discovered from YouTube. One of the most famous was Justin Bieber who used to upload a lot of cover songs to his YouTube channel.

In fact this is how he became famous.

Here’s the secret to build a following:

The secret to build your own following no matter what type of music you are doing is tapping into an existing audience. For example utilizing the popularity of someone who’s already famous of has a large following on any social media site. Trust me you are not the only one trying to get your music out there, competition is everywhere. But if you want to stand out you must do things differently, I’ll give you an example. A friend of mine owns a photography business and he asked me how could he learn what his competition was doing to get more business. I simply told him to go to Google and type wedding photography fort myers which is the city he lives in and check the top 5 websites and review each of them.

After doing this he learned that almost every single of his top competitors were on every social media site while he was on only 1 or 2. The same applies to someone who is trying to launch a music career, you need to be everywhere. Follow the steps of what the top artists did to become famous and be everywhere.

Is the music industry unfair?

Robin-ThickeThere is no doubt there are a lot of talented artist out there in the world, some are famous because of their talent others are famous for being famous. However, the amount of extremely talented artists that are still not discovered is amazing. In fact all you have to do is go on YouTube and watch some of the covers for may famous songs by average people who just love to sing.

The music industry is changing and evolving daily because of the internet and these days you often see singers complaining that they are not getting paid enough when in reality there are starving musicians who just want their big break.

In my opinion it is extremely unfair but we are little by little fixing that because of tools and platforms like YouTube where for example Justin Bieber was discovered, these days you can become a star without being discovered by a producer. With true talent you can build a following on social media and gain momentum.

Take for example Ten Second Songs, which is a channel that up to just 12 months ago no one knew who this guy was. He made one video and his popularity blew up now with over 1 million subscribers on YouTube and millions more on other social media sites. So if you are musician and you are not using these tools to get your name out there you are missing out big time. In fact take a look at one of his videos that received over 17 million views.

Crazy right?

Well, that’s the power of the internet. The music industry for the past decades has been very unfair when it comes to displaying real talents and just been focused on pushing trashy music that honestly poisons the minds of young people with sexual content and focused more on creating controversial lyrics to gain attention.

I look forward to the future and hope that the music industry does in fact change completely thanks to the internet and where every aspiring professional musician has the same chance as anyone else to become rich and famous for doing what they love to do. I hope you see my point in this article and if you enjoy it don’t be afraid to share it with your friends, this is the first of many posts to come.
